Poise in Prayer

Prayers should never become artwork (pretty to impress but the heart is far removed). Prayer is a posture of humility before God.

As there are different types of prayers; love, adoration, repentance, thanksgiving, and petitions, there are different kinds of postures in prayer. Consider these physical postures of prayer:

Bowing (Exodus 34:8)
Standing (Nehemiah 9:5)
Hands lifted (1 Timothy 2:8)
Sitting (1 Chronicle 17:16-27)
Kneeling (Ezra 9:5)
Laying facedown (Matthew 26:39)
Combination (may start with one posture and end with another)

If you are sleepy, stand up and pray.
If you aren’t feeling well, lay down and pray. The position of the heart is more important than the position of the body. No matter how you pray or are lead to pray in a specific posture, the Bible tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Pray always.

How do you prefer to pray?
